Celebrating Women in Digital for International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is a chance to celebrate women’s achievements and reflect on the work still needed to create equal opportunities. In both technology and digital marketing, women are making a remarkable impact- crafting campaigns, designing user experiences, and driving innovation across paid search, social media, content, analytics, and web development.

At 2C Digital, led by our Director Sara Toussimanesh, we see how vital women are in shaping the digital landscape. Their creativity, strategic thinking, and technical expertise influence how businesses connect with audiences and ensure digital solutions are inclusive, engaging, and effective.

The Impact of Women and the Importance of Representation

While women are increasingly entering tech and digital roles, a significant gap remains. Globally, women make up only around 27% of the technology workforce, and in digital marketing and technical roles, representation is often lower. Leadership positions highlight an even greater disparity: fewer than 20% of senior roles in tech and digital are held by women.

This gap matters because women bring perspectives that strengthen the industry. Inclusive teams drive innovation, develop campaigns that resonate with diverse audiences, and design digital experiences that reflect real-world users. Representation also provides visible role models, inspiring young women to see technology and digital marketing as viable career paths.

By celebrating women in the industry, we recognise their contributions, highlight the value of diverse voices, and encourage a future where digital and tech teams are truly inclusive.

Encouraging the Next Generation

Closing the gender gap requires support at every stage of a career. Mentorship, accessible training, and flexible working environments help women develop confidence, leadership skills, and long-term careers.

Early exposure is also crucial. Research shows that only 3% of young women consider technology or digital as their first career choice, and 78% of students cannot name a famous woman working in tech. Initiatives that teach analytics, campaign management, coding, and web development- paired with mentorship - can inspire more young women to enter and thrive in digital and tech roles.

Looking Ahead

The digital and technology landscape is evolving rapidly with AI, automation, and data-driven strategies. Women will play a central role in shaping these changes, leading campaigns, designing technology, and creating innovative digital experiences.

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the women driving creativity, strategy, and progress in tech and digital marketing. By recognising their achievements, addressing the gender gap, and fostering future talent, we can build a more inclusive, innovative, and sustainable industry.
